Research: 31 Percent of US Users Buy Regularly Online
31 percent of Internet users in the US are now purchasing regularly online,
according to a report by CDB Research and Consulting Inc. Consumers continue to be most
comfortable making familiar small scale purchases, according to the report.
The most popular products to buy online remain books, purchased by 33 percent of online
shoppers, CDs, purchased by 26 percent, and small gifts, purchased by 20 percent of
shoppers. However, a growing number of online consumers are happy to make bigger purchases
online. The survey found that 21 percent of shoppers have purchased airline tickets, and
13 percent have purchased computer hardware online.
When questioned about why they shop online, 30 percent cited the convenience of shopping
from the home, while 25 percent cited the 24-hour nature of online shopping. 18 percent of
those surveyed said that the Internet enabled them to price goods most efficiently.
52 percent of those surveyed reported spending less than USD100 online in the last month.
Women were found to be bigger online spenders, with 47 percent of female shoppers spending
more than USD100 online, compared to 23 percent of men.
The study found that overall women are more price conscious when shopping online and tend
to purchase a wide variety of products. The convenience factor of online shopping is also
a major draw for women.
